Pizza: The Ultimate Comfort Food

It seems so stereotypical, but I really love pizza. It always makes things better. Of course, alcohol is always something that I reach for when I'm stressed, but I wouldn't really categorize that as comfort food.



Since college, I have always turned to pizza as my metaphorical carb loading before the marathon. Before an important exam, I'd eat pizza. If I knew that I would be working an 18 hour day in technical rehearsal, I would order a pizza the night before and bring it with me to munch on when I got a 2 minute break. It has plenty of fat, carbs, and calories – which is exactly the type of energy I need in a stressful situation.



I even relied on pizza when I took the Illinois Bar Exam. Certainly a two day test that determines whether or not you can practice law is a stressful situation. Many of my friends stayed in a hotel within walking distance of the testing location. I felt that I would be better off sleeping in my own bed, getting ready in my own place, and driving to the testing site.



But, the night before the Bar Exam, I ordered two extra large pizzas with my favorite toppings on them. I had a healthy pizza meal the night before the exam. For the next two days, I had pizza for all three meals. During the lunch break of the bar exam, I went to my vehicle in a nearby parking garage and enjoyed a solitary pizza lunch. I knew that it would be tasty, and most of all, I would be able to digest it, even being a bit of a nervous wreck over such an important test.



Didn't I ever tire of pizza? Never! I suppose the best advice I can give is that if you're heading into something you know is going to be stressful; choose something to eat that you know you can trust!
