This was the first book that I can remember reading that didn't have pictures. I read it once a year from second grade through high school.
Although I haven't read it since then, I still think of Helen Keller as an inspiration for overcoming obstacles. At the same time my classmates were reading "How to Pick Your Nose," a title that always sticks with me, for a book I believe that was about skateboarding.
I learned about the power of a good teacher, Anne Sullivan. I was amazed at friendship that transcended mediums, with Alexander Graham Bell. Helen Keller was a model for perseverance and thirst for knowledge. I still think of her inspiration often, and very much need to pick up this amazing autobiography again.
